Last summer while in SF my friend had a bag that was really unique – the Anteprima Wirebag. I was really impressed with the bag, it was a unique item and I was surprised I haven’t seen more of these bags in North America. She told me that it was only available in Asia. However, during Christmas my friend was visiting from Hong Kong and helped me purchase a Wirebag Catena clutch. This “wire” is basically very similar to “gimp string”.
Product Description (from the information card provided)
Anteprima Wirebag was introduced by Izumi Ogino in 1998 and is hand-knitted with an exclusive wire cord from Italy that is iridescent with light diffusing properties. This unique material is resilient in nature allowing flexibility in shape and volume.
Features
The strap and the border is a chain intertwined with the wire cord, which ensures rigidity. The strap is attached with lobster claws on each end and can be converted to a wristlet and is a zipper closure. Their signature logo tag consists of a donut with their logo. Some products have it around a handle, but on the clutch it is part of the zipper pull tab. Proof of purchase card is provided, needs to be presented with requesting repairs. My friend told me it was a lifetime warranty though nothing on the card indicates that.
The inside dimensions of the clutch measures 8.5″x6″. Fits phone, makeup compact, card holder, lipstick, and a pack of mints. There are no inserts or pockets inside. The clutch is relatively flat.
Material
Due to the plastic and flexible nature of the wire, the bag seems expandable. The wire cord is tan in colour but with a stripe of silver, which adds a glittery look. Also note that there are also glitter wirebag products.
Availability
According to the website, available in the following countries: Italy, UK, USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Korea. USA locations are in Hawaii and Guam – definitely not driving distance.
Price
My friend said she purchased it on sale, though the receipt only indicates a price of HKD $1,995 which is equivalent to USD $257. She remembers it being 30-40% off. Prices are not listed on the website.
Verdict
After owning this clutch for half a year, I love it! The price is well worth it for such a unique product. Though I am not sure if I would buy multiple wirebags, having one in my handbag collection is sufficient. Highly recommend one if you can get your hands on one. Check out the rest of the collection on their website.
