My 16 Hour Adventure in Vancouver, BC

During the past Canadian long weekend, a close friend was getting married in Vancouver but I had other commitments back home in Toronto, thus resulting in an extremely short trip to Vancouver.  I went to the airport in my dress for the wedding.

My hairdo definitely did not last the flight unfortunately, it suffered excessively loss of volume.

I was so rushed going to the airport because I had a group meeting in the morning, that I realized when I got there that I didn’t finish altering my dress (needed to be shorter), I had to trim it in my airport washroom!  Do you notice where the bottom edge is uneven?

The gold jersey dress was a bargain $15, though it was too large, the alterations were relatively simple and my mom took it in at the sides and moved the belt up.  I was suppose to trim the bottom, the bottom edge is an open seam.  The dress, surprisingly didn’t wrinkle too much!

I didn’t check in any luggage, just brought a few items.

  • Laptop (and work not shown) for doing work on the flight
  • Trench and cardigan because Vancouver is a lot colder than Toronto
  • Amrita Singh Sag Harbour necklace to wear at the wedding
  • Jimmy Choo evening shoes
  • DSLR, kit lens and 50mm  (inside Louis Vuitton Trevi PM)
  • Louis Vuitton Sunset Boulevard clutch, didn’t even bring my full wallet!
  • Makeup bag and makeup touch-up bag (probably could have been consolidated!)
  • Wedding gift (which was a cheque in a red envelope)
  • And of course, my passport

3:30 PM – Bus arrives
3:40 PM – Arrive at hotel and check in luggage with concierge
3:40 – 4:00 PM – Mingle and catch up with friends
4:00 – 4:30 PM – Wait for ceremony to begin

2:30 AM – Arrive back at airport
2:30 – 3:00 AM – Clean off makeup, wash face, brush teeth at airport washroom
3:00 – 3:15 AM – Find a comfy bench, while walking around airport half blind, removed contacts and did not bring glasses
3:15 – 3:45  AM – Found a hard bench upstairs, tried to nap, but it was too cold!  Kept wondering why I didn’t bring a change of clothes or pants at least!
3:45 – 4:00 AM – The search for another softer bench begins

5:15 – 6:30 AM – Arrive at departure gate and try to nap on bench
6:30 AM – Boarding begins!
7:00 AM – Flight departs, until next time Vancouver!

By the time I was back in Toronto, I was exhausted and I do not recommend the above itinerary to anyone!

A few photos from the wedding.  I missed the bouquet and garter toss, but my friend took photos for me (hence blurriness).

Bouquet toss

Garter toss

Every single wedding, no one is grabbing the bouquet or garter.  And every time I recommend to the bride and groom to stick a $100 bill in the bouquet/garter, people will definitely try to catch it and it would make a great photo op!  To this day no one has taken my advice.   The $100 cash gift is just pennies compare to the ten thousands they spent on the wedding!  Don’t you agree?

And the shoe game…I have yet to go to a wedding where they did not play this game!

Shoe game

If you’re in Toronto area, one of my blogger friends is hosting a social on June 13th.  Details below.  I’m definitely looking forward to it!  Click the poster below for more details and ticket purchase.

Have a good long weekend American friends!

I used to work at a banquet hall and have never seen the shoe game played! (And I’ve seen HUNDREDS of weddings in my time.. LOL) I just looked it up and it sounds like such a fun game!! Definitely gonna try & remember that for my wedding.

Can’t believe you survived such a busy schedule in Vancouver.. I would’ve given up. lol On another note, I really love the dress & accessories on you. Should’ve saved this post for the PFC wedding post coming up next week though. ; )

       lol…noo…no more shoe game!!!

I was trying to be really efficient today and finish my post before I went to the gym, and in the back of my mind I was thinking I should check the PFC for this month!  Damnit this one totally qualified!!!  I’m sure I’ll think of something for next week :)

What a crazy day!!  Didn’t know that you could just check luggage in at a hotel without staying there.  I think I’ve only been to two or three weddings with a shoe game.  Mine did not.  I specifically stated NO SILLY GAMES ( actually, I said NO GAMES, PERIOD) because I wanted a very civilized reception.  I didn’t even have door games (I don’t know about your circle, but door games/picking up the bride can get a little nasty – as in almost Samantha Jones nasty).

    • PetiteintheCity

Actually…I didn’t know I could too, I asked and they have a ticket system and a back room where they keep checked stuff!  Otherwise I was going to put it in the bride’s suite.

Maybe my crowd of friends looove these silly games…I feel exactly the same way for those morning door games.  This wedding didn’t have them, but most I go to do.  They’re super early in the morning, games are silly and they’re always the same and you always know the outcome.  All that for a $5 red pocket!

Did you do the other Chinese traditions like hair brushing?

I only had a tea ceremony (which I had after my legal ceremony) and table toasting. I was given a dragon bracelet, but I didn’t wear it. I don’t like overdoing bling.  I also only changed once, from my wedding gown to a vintage dress my mom wore at her wedding.  I didn’t have a qipao/kwa.  It was too much to bring over to the island (my wedding was at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club).

Wow your wedding must have been fancy-looking and upscale, you need to show me pictures sometime ;)

I love that you chose blue accents against the gold dress – looks so very striking together!  Loving how the Sag Harbor necklace looks on you.  Don’t you just love the color of the lapis?  It’s my favorite Amrita Singh piece.

    • PetiteintheCity

Agree!  Now I wish I bought both colours when it was on sale!

  • La Professionnelle

Great job with your alteration!! As for the Amrita Singh necklace, it looks divine on you! I would love to see you style it with a casual plain t-shirt look as well! <3

OMG that schedule is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!  You looked fabulous by the way, I can’t believe you were brave enough to alter that dress on the fly like that!

Just found your blog and like it! So um maybe its just me what’s the shoe game? lol

The bride and groom are not allowed to face each other and they get asked questions. The answer is usually “the bride” or “the groom”, and they would indicate that by raising the respective shoe.

Questions are usually humourous in nature and test how well they know each other, and tailored for the bride and groom. Sample Q’s:
      -Who does the cleaning?
      -Who’s the better cook?
-Who was the first to ask the other out?
